All About Sleep Sacks

Sleep sacks are a great addition to any routine!

I truly love sleep sacks for my little ones– it’s an extra layer of sleep associations which is always helpful in creating positive experiences around sleep, it keeps their temperature regulated, and I love how easy it makes sleeping in new places for them!

With that being said, we’ve tried A LOT of sleep sacks over the years. None of them change how our kids sleep/slept, but there are definitely specific things I look for after trying so. many. options.

I get asked about sleep sacks frequently, so I’m going to compile a list of all the sleep sacks we use/have used and why I like each one of them. Then you can decide what is important to you and go with that!

My number one for buying any sleep sack is how long we will be able to use it. I don’t want to buy a new sleep sack every couple of months because they’ve outgrown it in some way! (Ones we’ve outgrown quickly have been Halo, Baby DeeDee, and Aden&Anais– all totally fine sleep sacks, just didn’t get to wear them for long!)

So first up… we have to talk about our number one favorite: Kyte BABY.

The reasons this is our absolute favorite and most used is because of the material. Lukah suffers from eczema and the bamboo/breathable material really helps to manage his flare ups without making them worse or making him feel miserable. I’ve honestly never seen him scratch his eczema spots when he’s in bamboo– only if he’s in cotton or nothing!

Another reason is because they last for SO long. He has worn the 0-6 month size from 12 weeks to now at almost 16 months. He can still easily fit into that size but I just sized up because I know the 6-18 month size will last equally as long.

There are also 3 different TOG ratings (thickness/how much heat the garment holds) so we can change up the TOG depending on the room temp (which in Texas can vary by a lot!) In the summer we can use the 0.5 TOG for naps and the 1.0 TOG for night time sleep. We use the 1.0 TOG year round.

For night time diaper changes, we love the double zipper option but with an older child, that isn’t a deal breaker for me!

I also really like the zipper design (j-zipper) that goes around the sides instead of up the middle; it makes it more out of sight/out of mind for little escape artists!

Next up, another frequently used sleep sack is our Nested Bean (HEAVENSENT15 saves 15%). We wore the medium for almost a year as well, thankfully because the shoulder snaps allow for a little more wear.

I’ve never flipped the sack around backwards- he has no issues sleeping on his stomach with the little nested bean on the front. Since it is a 0.5 TOG though, we only use it for naps unless we are having a really warm night or he’s sleeping in a warmer environment/not at home. There are other TOGs available, but we haven’t used them!

It also has a double zipper, but not a deal breaker for us.

Another sack we like for the longevity of wear is from Woolino! (HEAVENSENT10 saves 10%) We have the all seasons version and also do not have any issues with eczema irritation because of the natural fibers/temperature regulation.

It features zippers for the shoulders and the sides so you can adjust the fit as well as a  lot of extra room for length.

It does have a spot for the buckle in the car seat, but we only tried it once and it wasn’t for us…

Those are going to be our top 3 sleep sacks and most used (Kyte BABY, Nested Bean, and Woolino). However, there are more that we use and for different reasons…

Other options for different needs:

  • Dreamland Baby (HEAVENSENT10 for 10% off) is a weighted sleep sack (more weight than the Nested Bean) and is great for littles who are more sensitive + might need more sensory input.

  • Bitta Kidda & Snuggy Buddy (HEAVENSENTSLEEP10 saves 10%) are GREAT safe options for babies who need a lovey but are too young (under 12 months) to have a separate lovey in their sleep space with them.

  • Ergopouch sleep bags also have lots of options for sleep sacks and sleep suits (with feet) with different materials + TOG ratings. We have a 0.2 TOG so we’ve only used it for daytime sleep when it’s warmer! It is long so we will get a lot of wear out of it.

So those are the ones we’ve personally used/tried and ones that we love for all different reasons! I hope that helps!
